Ufa will host international scientific session on ethnic history and anthropology of Bashkirs

On June 23-24, the I meeting of the scientific session on the ethnic history and anthropology of the Bashkirs "Bashkirs in the context of interdisciplinary research of the Turkic peoples of Eurasia" will occur in Ufa. The event is held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the scientific session of the Department of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR on the problems of the ethnogenesis of the Bashkirs.

The organizers are the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, named after N.N. Miklouho-Maclay RAS and the Institute for Strategic Studies of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The international event is attended by scientists from Hungary, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and several scientific centers of our country: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Tomsk, Kazan, Astrakhan, Grozny, Cherkessk. The scientific event is designed for a working discussion and generalization of the basic concepts that have accumulated on this topic since the previous scientific session held by the Bashkir branch and the History Department of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

The issues of ethnogenesis, political genesis, and anthropology of the Bashkirs are some of the key problems in the history of the Turkic peoples of Eurasia. Having formed as an ethnos and a nation in the Southern Urals, the Bashkirs have preserved in their history, ethnography, and population characteristics traces of complex ethnopolitical and socio-anthropological processes that are significant for understanding the specifics and patterns in the formation of the peoples of Eurasia as a whole. Discussion of these problems on a modern methodological basis can become the key to solving several important methodological problems in the history and social anthropology.
