Bashkir Registry of Bone Marrow Donors is registered in republic

The Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization "Bashkir Registry of Bone Marrow Donors" is registered in the Republic of Bashkortostan.

This is a joint project of the Republican Medical Genetic Center, the Republican Blood Transfusion Station (RSPK), and Rusfond, the RSPK reported.

"The register was created to assist in the search for genetic donors of bone marrow stem cells for patients with hematological diseases," Ramil Khamitov, chief physician of the Blood Transfusion Station, noted. "The Republican Blood Transfusion Station carries out recruiting donors, volunteers. NGS typing is carried out by specialists of the Republican Medical Genetic Center. In addition, Rusfond ensures the maintenance of the organization in terms of reagents and consumables procurement.

To date, there are 3935 donors in the Bashkir Registry. Residents of the republic are kindly asked to actively replenish the database of potential bone marrow donors for seriously ill patients. The larger the database, the higher the chance of finding a donor for a particular patient.

Anyone aged 18 to 45 years, weighing at least 50 kg, who has no absolute contraindications to blood donation, can become a donor.

Blood can be donated for typing at the Republican Blood Transfusion Station at Ufa, Batyrskaya Str. 41/1, from 8 am to 1 pm (on weekdays).
