Bashkiria may become pilot region in Russia to support young women scientists

Bashkortostan may launch a pilot project to support young women scientists. This initiative was put forward by the head of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, Liliya Gumerova. During the discussion "Women Scientists and Global Challenges of Our Time" at the All-Russian Open Academy "Territory of Women's Happiness" in Ufa, the Senator noted that the support of women scientists in the regions required additional attention.
"Women scientists account for 39.1 percent in Russian science, and in the world as a whole, for less than 30 percent. The world needs science, and science needs women. I am sure that scientific and technological progress can become even more significant if the talent, creativity, and scientific potential of girls and women are fully engaged," the Senator emphasized.
According to her, special attention should be paid to the promotion of talented girls - winners of the Olympiads, their support, including mentoring.
She proposed, together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the relevant departments of Bashkortostan, to analyze the proposals for providing support to young women scientists, to develop and implement a pilot project in this area in the republic.
"The Federation Council Committee is also ready to get involved in the elaboration of specific initiatives aimed at supporting women scientists, the development of domestic science, taking into account the opportunities that open up in the Year of Science and Technology," the legislator concluded.
