Bashkiria received first 2 340 doses of CoviVac vaccine of Chumakov Center

Today, May 20, Bashkiria received the first 2,340 doses of CoviVac vaccine from the Chumakov Center. This is the third vaccine against the new coronavirus infection registered in Russia.

The CoviVac drug was developed by the M.P. Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Preparations. Unlike its predecessors - "Gam-COVID-Vac" and "EpiVacCorona", it contains the virus and not its fragments. In this case, the virus itself is deactivated (the drug contains the active substance antigen of the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus at least 3 μg).

Unlike its predecessors, CoviVac is stored at temperatures from +2 to +8 degrees Celsius. Freezing the vaccine is prohibited. It is jabbed twice with an interval of 14 days.

The vaccine was officially registered on February 20, 2021. Its deliveries to the regions began on March 28. As of today, 70,000 doses of the vaccine have been produced.

At the moment, only adults between 18 and 60 years old can use the vaccine. Also, the vaccine is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In the near future, the Chumakov Center plans to conduct the third phase of clinical trials of CoviVac, in which volunteers over 60 years old will take part.

Today, all three types of registered Russian vaccines for COVID-19 are present in the republic.

Over the entire period of vaccination, the region received 384,034 doses of vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus infection, including 372,784 doses of Gam-COVID-Vac; 8,910 doses of EpiVacCorona, 2,340 doses of CoviVac.
