The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) has compiled a rating according to which the leading tourist destinations among Russians since the beginning of this year are five regions. According to the vice-president of ATOR Ilya Umansky, this is due to Russians' growing need for novelty.
"In the first place - the Murmansk region, then the Kaliningrad region, the third place was taken by Bashkortostan, the top five also included Dagestan and North Ossetia. This is a ranking of the Top 5 most growing destinations. These areas have never been among the leaders before," Umansky said in an interview with the Vechernyaya Moskva radio station.
In his opinion, the introduction of travel abroad restrictions is an incentive for Russian tourists to get acquainted with the country's regions' nature and culture and get new impressions.
As an alternative to Turkey, beach lovers can choose the Black Sea coast, said the ATOR vice-president.
On April 12, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova announced that Russia limited regular and charter flights with Turkey and Tanzania for the period from April 15 to June 1 due to the worsening situation with COVID-19 in these countries.
