Scientists have completed a working draft of a nomination dossier of the "Rock Painting of the Shulgan-Tash Cave" object, which is being prepared for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This was announced by the director of the Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Shulgan-Tash Cave" Favzil Malikov.
The dossier is a collection of scientific studies of the cave and its buffer zone from the point of view of various branches of science - geology, climatology, geography, hydrology, and others. The dossier must substantiate the outstanding universal value of the object. 12 scientists and private experts are preparing this wording. In general, the project group for compiling the dossier included 25 leading experts in rock art from Russia and neighboring countries.
It is planned to bring the dossier for open discussion in June this year.
Also, a monument management plan must be prepared for the inclusion procedure in the UNESCO heritage list. The timing of this work depends, among other things, on the solution of land issues (defining the boundaries of the monument, protected zones).
It is assumed that the documents will be ready by the end of the year, after which they must be translated into French or English and submitted to the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO.
As the Bashinform News Agency earlier reported, the museum building is being prepared for commissioning in June this year. The museum has been built since 2018 at the request of UNESCO, specifically for the study and preservation of Paleolithic rock carvings of the Shulgan-Tash cave. The museum will house a 3D model of the object, which will accept excursions when the cave itself has to be closed for conservation.
