CoviVac: third vaccine against coronavirus is registered in Russia

The third vaccine against the new coronavirus infection has been registered in Russia. The Chumakov Center developed the CoviVac. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced this on February 20.

"Already in mid-March, the first 120,000 doses will be put into civilian circulation," the Prime Minister said at a meeting on the vaccine circulation.

According to him, today, Russia is the only country that already has three vaccines to prevent the COVID infection.

"The vaccine we have developed is a classic whole-virion vaccine," Aydar Ishmukhametov, General Director of the Chumakov Center, explained.

The peculiarity of the vaccine of the Chumakov Center is that it contains a whole virus. It is considered particularly promising because its effectiveness is less dependent on coronavirus mutations. It is recommended to administer the vaccine twice with a break of two weeks to obtain reliable protection.

Recall that the first vaccine against COVID-19 in Russia and the world - Sputnik V - was developed at the Gamaleya Center. It was registered on August 11, 2020. The second was the peptide vaccine "EpiVacCorona" by the "Vector" center from Novosibirsk. It was registered last autumn.

As reported by the Bashinform News Agency, 42,500 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Bashkiria. In total, 94 thousand doses of vaccine against the new coronavirus infection have been delivered to the region. At present, 42.5 thousand people have been vaccinated with the first component and 12 thousand with the second. It is necessary to vaccinate about 70% of the republic's residents to form herd immunity from the coronavirus.
