Doctor announced correlation between COVID-19 and blood groups

Scientists around the world continue to study the new coronavirus infection. One of the research areas is the search for a connection between the course of the disease and the blood group of a person. Anna Kulinkovich, the general practitioner of the European Medical Center, told the Prime agency about this correlation, having noted that several such studies had been carried out so far. They are local, not large-scale, but already reveal a specific trend.

"People with blood group O are the least of all among the sick. Even if the absolute number of cases is impressive, relative to the total number of carriers of group O in the population, it remains low. However, people with A and AB blood groups got infected more often and more severely than others", the doctor said.

People with blood group O have a lower risk of developing thromboembolism and cardiovascular complications. The most severe infection occurs in patients with group AB.

As reported by the Bashinform News Agency, in total, about 27 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were identified in Bashkiria. Of these, 153 cases were reported on the past day. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 238 deaths from COVID-19 have been registered in the region.
