Child was operated on by robot at Ufa hospital

A robot of the robotic surgery center operated on a child for the first time in the clinic of Bashkir State Medical University (BSMU) in Ufa. According to the press service of the regional Ministry of Health, this is a breakthrough in the field of pediatric surgery.

The robot-assisted operation was carried out on a patient of the urology department of the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital with a congenital malformation of the kidney under Valentin Pavlov's guidance, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rector of Bashkir State Medical University. A 14-year-old boy was diagnosed with hydronephrosis, a disease accompanied by an expansion of the renal pyelocaliceal system.

The use of robotic technology takes us to a new level due to minimal invasiveness, high precision of intervention, and reduced surgery time, doctors say.

The patient is now receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the BSMU clinic supervised by a pediatric urologist and resuscitation specialist. After the early postoperative period, the boy will be transferred to the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital's urology department.
