In Bashkortostan, infant-feeding centers plan to produce yogurt with bioiodine. This was announced at the round table "Modern trends in nutrition to provide iodine to the population of the Republic of Bashkortostan."
The problem of iodine deficiency is relevant practically for all Russian regions, especially for the Republic of Bashkortostan. Now work is underway to introduce iodine into the recipe for infant-feeding centers' products, taking into account the regional ecological situation and total iodine deficiency.
"We have purchased organic iodine. Tests began on January 25. The first batch of samples taken from all structural divisions of the infant-feeding centers has been examined to date. The second batch is next in line. The start of delivery of the results is scheduled for February 24", the director of the infant-feeding centers Eldar Saygafarov said.
Bioiodine is tasteless, odorless, easily soluble in milk. It is introduced at the stage before pasteurization; it is resistant to high heat treatment. Its properties reduce the risk of thyroid disease and positively affect concentration and improve memory. Test developments have shown that the taste of dairy products does not change. Yogurt will be produced with a covalently bound iodine content of 30 μg per 100 g of the finished product, which will amount to 30% of an infant's daily intake.
