Bashkiria hit violence against children anti-rating of Russian regions

Bashkiria ranked third among Russia's anti-leaders in violence against children. The "Nuzhna Pomosch" (Need Help) Foundation researched open data for 2019 and formed an integral indicator of children's well-being in the Russian regions.

According to experts, in 2019, 107,571 children were recognized as victims. The specific indicator's value - the number of children recognized as victims to 100 thousand was 356 people in 2019.

According to the absolute indicator, the anti-leaders among all subjects were (in descending order): Chelyabinsk and Kemerovo regions, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Sverdlovsk region, and Perm region, the number of victims of minors in which exceeded 3 thousand people.

Fewer than 100 children recognized as victims were recorded (in ascending order): in the Republic of Ingushetia, Chukotka, and Nenets Autonomous District, as well as in the Chechen Republic.

"The problem of domestic violence deserves special attention, the majority of cases of which are not registered and are not reflected in state statistics due to the absence of a special law. Meanwhile, indirect estimates indicate the widespread occurrence of this problem in Russian society (7% of Russians witnessed a domestic assault in their parents' family, another 19% knew about such cases in their environment)," the experts note.

The study reports that from 2017 to 2019, there has been an increase in the number of preliminarily investigated crimes against sexual integrity and sexual freedom of minors (from 13,487 to 14,755), as well as an increase in the number of crimes committed by minors and with their complicity, of a similar nature. (from 425 in 2017 to 618 in 2019). Such data are contained in the children's Ombudsman Anna Kuznetsova report on Russia's situation as a whole.

Experts also note that the rate of serious crimes committed by a family member against a minor is growing, from 454 in 2017 to 585 in 2019.
