Memory of Holocaust victims was honoured in Ufa

Today the victims of the Holocaust were paid tribute in the Jewish Cultural Center of Ufa. The participants laid flowers to the monument of the Holocaust victims and the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. The monument was opened on June 25.
The monument is 3.5 m high and has three stone columns topped with a broken menorah, stylized as an eternal flame of memory. The author of the symbolic composition is St. Petersburg artist Alexander Pozin.
The memorial was built on the initiative and at the expense of the Jewish community of Bashkortostan. Today it is the only memorial to the victims of the Holocaust in the Volga Federal District.
The event participants saw the "Butterflies of Memory" exposition prepared by the children, listened to songs, and watched theatrical performances.
The Chairman of the State Assembly of Bashkortostan Konstantin Tolkachev noted in his speech that Bashkortostan was proud of the feat of its fellow countryman, a native of the Blagoveshchensk region, Nikolai Kiselev, who rescued more than 200 Jewish residents out of the Belarusian village occupied by the enemy.
According to the Chief Rabbi of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the city of Ufa, Dan Krichevsky, the Holocaust is a pain for all peoples. And even after more than seven decades, it is important to remember the tragedy.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Bashkortostan Azat Badranov, Chairman of the Central Spiritual Board of Muslims of Russia Talgat Tadzhuddin, Head of the Bashkortostan Metropolitanate Metropolitan Nikon also spoke at the event.
