Lake Talkas in Baimaksky district of Bashkiria will become natural monument

Lake Talkas, located in the territory of the Baimaksky district of Bashkiria, will soon receive the status of a natural monument, according to the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

Currently, design work is underway to define its protected zone, boundaries, and operation modes.

Vasily Martynenko, director of the Institute of Biology of the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that in 2000 there was an attempt to create an "Irendyk" natural park there, in which Lake Talkas was one of the key objects. The project was developed, but the natural park was never created.

Recently, there has been very strong pressure on this reservoir. Last summer, due to the coronavirus situation, there was a large influx of tourists to all the major lakes in the region. Now the status of a specially protected natural area is necessary for Lake Talkas more than ever to bring order here.

The status of a monument implies a specific operation mode. Moreover, it is different in various parts of the monument.
