More than 100 drivers with hearing impairments work in taxi services in Bashkiria

In Bashkiria, more than 100 hard-of-hearing drivers work in taxi services. This was reported by Kira Nugaeva, a specialist and translator of the Russian sign language of the Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Disabled People “All-Russian Society of the Deaf” in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
They study in a regular driving school only accompanied by an interpreter who retells the sign language traffic rules.
According to Nina Romanovich, the lawyer specializing in protecting the rights of the deaf, in most cases, the work of a driver is the only opportunity for people with hearing impairments to earn a living since it can be problematic to get another education.
Earlier it became known about the blocking of the deaf-mute driver Salavat Salikhov in the Yandex-taxi system, who was denied access to orders, allegedly because he did not answer the call from the security service.
Lawyers and the public got involved in the case; more than 58 thousand people signed a petition demanding to restore justice.
Now the blocking has been lifted.
“The company does not explain the reasons. Violations are not reported, user ratings are only positive. In Ufa, passengers react with understanding when they see a hard-of-hearing driver. They are satisfied with the trip”, says Salavat Salikhov.
As lawyer Nina Romanovich later reported, Salikhov received all the payments due. Besides, one of the Yandex directors flew to Ufa to apologize to the driver.
