Virologist named unusual coronavirus feature

A virologist, head of the laboratory of biotechnology and virology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Novosibirsk State University, Professor Sergei Netesov called the coronavirus's most unusual attribute - the disease combined features that were previously encountered in several other viruses.

As the doctor told Lenta.ru, dysregulation of the immune system (cytokine storm; a dangerous reaction of the immune system to COVID) also occurs with other infections, such as Ebola. The same relates to thrombosis in the coronavirus, disseminated blood coagulation syndrome - they were observed in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Dengue fever, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome.

As for the loss of smell, this is not a specific symptom of the coronavirus infection - at least 20 viruses that enter the body through the nose and affect the olfactory nerves have the same attribute.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Bashkiria warned residents of the republic that taking antibiotics did not affect COVID-19. According to the ministry, lung damage from a viral infection is not treated with these drugs.
