New record for community-acquired pneumonia incidence was registered in Bashkiria

A new record was reported in the number of community-acquired pneumonia cases in Bashkiria. The number of pneumonia cases reached 337 people per day, the Republican Ministry of Health informs.

At the same time, 360 people were discharged from hospitals per day.

Yesterday, the number of community-acquired pneumonia cases in the region was 299 people.

Earlier, Bashinform News Agency reported that the number of deaths from community-acquired pneumonia this year has almost doubled compared to last year.

From January to October of this year, 1505 people died with this diagnosis; for the same period in 2019 - 860 residents of Bashkiria.

It was also informed that the Minister of Health of Bashkiria, Maxim Zabelin, announced on November 10 that vaccination against pneumonia does not protect against COVID-19. “Inflammation of the lung tissue in humans develops for various reasons. The pathological process is caused by both viral infections and bacteria, which are very different from each other in structure and features”, Zabelin said.

As the minister noted, the vaccine against pneumococcus is intended primarily to protect against microorganisms that cause pneumococcal pneumonia.

Pneumonia is diagnosed by computed tomography of the chest and x-rays.
