Second COVID-19 vaccine is registered in Russia

On October 14, the second anti-COVID-19 vaccine was registered in Russia, Vladimir Putin said at a government meeting, the federal media report. It is the "EpiVacCorona" drug of the Novosibirsk Institute "Vector". Besides, the head of state announced the third vaccine – by the Moscow Chumakov Center.

The first, on August 11, was registered the vaccine by the Gamaleya Center - "Gam-COVID-Vak" (trademark "Sputnik V"). Vaccination is in two stages, with an interval of three weeks allows forming immunity for up to two years. The approximate cost of one dose of the vaccine is named - no more than 1000 rubles. It is based on the use of adenovirus, which was deprived of the ability to reproduce, and the sequence encoding the S-protein of the coronavirus was inserted into the genome. The developers believe that this is the most progressive method. The downside is that for the formation of immunity, a large dose of the drug is required, which may cause a temperature.

The Novosibirsk vaccine can cause an immune response and promote the development of immunity, scientists explain. "EpiVacCorona" contains virus fragments - synthetic peptide antigens (short proteins).

The development of the Chumakov Center is a classic whole-virion vaccine containing a whole virus. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova specified that this vaccine's second phase of clinical trials would begin on October 19 and end by December.
