Approximate cost of Russian coronavirus vaccine shot is announced

FAS Russia will set a ceiling price for the dose of the Russian coronavirus vaccine, according to federal media. As the head of the department, Igor Artemyev, it should not be higher than 1,000 rubles. It is assumed that the price will continue to decline further.

"Vaccines are produced in relatively small batches, and funds are needed to expand production. Therefore, we agreed that this would be a kind of formula to establish this tariff by determining the cost price because there is no base for comparison with other countries," TASS quotes Artemyev.

Russia registered the world's first vaccine against coronavirus on August 11 - this is a drug of the I. Gamalei Moscow Research Center for Microbiology and Epidemiology "Sputnik V." It will go into circulation on January 1, 2021.

The second vaccine was developed by the State Center of Virology and Biotechnology "Vector" (Novosibirsk). Tests of the EpiVacCorona drug were completed on September 30; its registration is scheduled for mid-October. Production is to begin in November.

Virologists point out that double vaccination will be required for a stable result. A single vaccination will give immunity for 5-7 months. A repeated vaccination will increase protection for a period of 2 years.

Doctors, teachers, people at risk will be the first to be vaccinated. As explained by the Bashkir Ministry of Health, the federal budget will purchase the vaccine for them. The timing of the vaccination campaign will be announced after the completion of post-registration studies.
