Deputies propose to give fathers parental leave in Bashkiria

In Bashkiria, deputies propose to give fathers parental leave at the birth of a child. The Deputy Chairman of the State Assembly of the Republic Rustam Ishmukhametov came up with the initiative to consider such a possibility.
According to the parliamentarian, this will help increase the birth rate.
"In many countries, fathers are given parental leave. In Italy - seven days, in France - two weeks, in Sweden - at least two months, in Finland from next year, the leave for fathers will be more than five months," Rustam Ishmukhametov said. "There is a certain logic in this. A woman after childbirth needs all kinds of support. She needs help with the housework, help with taking care of the child. Someone should be with her at least the first time. Traditionally, in most families, grandmothers take care of these concerns. However, not everyone has such an opportunity. Who, then, will help the young mother, if not the child's father? How will he help if he is at work all the time? Perhaps we should also secure the parental leave for men at the birth of a child. This is so far only as an idea for discussion, which in the future could receive some kind of legislative development."
On September 30, demographic problems were discussed at parliamentary hearings in the State Assembly RB. The topic of socio-economic measures to stimulate the birth rate in Bashkortostan was one of the key ones.
