Bashkiria Health Ministry explained increase in mortality in July

The Ministry of Health of Bashkiria explained the reasons for the increase in mortality in July this year.

As the Bashinform News Agency reported, 6,221 people died in the republic in the second summer month, in July 2019 - 4,212 citizens. The increase compared to the same period last year amounted to 48%. 9 people officially died from the coronavirus in July.

As the Minister of Health of the Republic Maxim Zabelin said on September 30 at the parliamentary hearings in the State Assembly RB on demography, many people, in fear of contracting COVID-19, did not seek medical help on time. He noted a decrease in the number of calls to an ambulance in connection with myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular accident by 5-7%.

Besides, according to Maxim Zabelin, people at risk of infection were simply afraid to go to the pharmacy and stopped taking the necessary medications.

The increase in the number of deaths was also affected by the quarantine of the republic's medical institutions, including the Kuvatov Republican Clinical Hospital, the minister added.

According to Rosstat, a total of 31,470 residents died in Bashkortostan from January to July 2020. 29,187 deaths were recorded during the same period in 2019. The increase was 2,283.
