Bashkiria has five times increased purchase of vaccines against pneumonia
Today, more than 21 thousand residents of Bashkiria have been vaccinated against pneumonia, including conscripts and population over 60 years old. This year, the republic has increased the purchase of vaccines against this infection fivefold: 95,600 doses were purchased from the federal budget for vaccination of 43,800 children in the first year of life and revaccination of 40,500 babies.
"We consulted with our epidemiologists and decided to form a strong immune layer among the most vulnerable in order to significantly reduce mortality from complications of community-acquired pneumonia in the republic," said the head of Bashkiria, Radiy Khabirov. "In the future, we will maintain the rate of vaccination at the same level in order to protect our older generation from this dangerous infection fully. Studies have proven that immunity from pneumococcus persists in adults for more than five years. "
The region plans to complete immunization of adults with lung disease by 15 August. There are plans to vaccinate 40 thousand people. This figure is four times higher than last year.
In total, 68 989 persons over 60 years of age with lung diseases are registered with medical organizations in the republic. Immunization of the remaining 18,989 people will be scheduled for 2021. It is also planned to purchase pneumococcal vaccines for other risk groups.
