Less abortions and more IVF procedures are recorded in Bashkiria

The number of in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures has been increased by 850 this year to stimulate the birth rate in Bashkiria, said Lenara Ivanova, Deputy Prime Minister of the republican government and Minister of Family, Labor and Social Protection.

According to her, annually, more than 82 million rubles are allocated from the republican budget for IVF.

By July 1, 21% of the planned IVF procedures were completed in Bashkiria. The reason is the situation with the coronavirus, when people were simply afraid, explained Lenara Ivanova, and added that the Ministry of Health had already announced their readiness to increase the number of IVF procedures in order to achieve the targets planned for the year.

In total, in the first six months of this year, 1,161 IVF and cryotransfer procedures were performed in Bashkiria. As a result of the procedures, 330 children were born.

According to data on July 10, 1702 women are in the waiting lists for procedures.

In addition, in the framework of the national project “Demography”, a program of quality pre-abortion psychological counseling has been approved and is being implemented in the republic. In January-June of this year, 44.5% of women taken counseling refused to terminate a pregnancy.

The total number of abortions, compared with January-June 2019, decreased in the region by 5.1%, the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Protection of the population of Bashkiria emphasized.
