Russian scientists have successfully tested vaccine against coronavirus
Russian scientists have successfully tested the coronavirus vaccine. Employees of the N.F. Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia (NITsEM) tested their own vector vaccine against COVID-19, and the trial was successful: immunity is present, no negative effects were found, Interfax reports.
The director of the center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gunzburg, explained that that was a promising vector vaccine of the NITsEM based on DNA adenovirus with integrated the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus gene. Adenovirus is used as a “container” to deliver the coronavirus gene to cells, start proteins synthesis of the new coronavirus envelope there, and thus to “introduce” the immune system to a potential enemy. Vaccines of this type are called vector ones.
In an interview with the agency, the academician said that all its developers, as well as the organizers of preclinical studies and technologists, administered the vaccine to protect themselves. At the same time, he did not name a specific number of people who took part in the experiment. Officially, at this stage, the vaccine based on DNA adenovirus passes the final stage of preclinical trials.
