The Minister of Health of Bashkiria Maxim Zabelin posted yesterday on his Instagram that in the next month and a half, another 300 lung ventilators to be delivered to hospitals of Bashkiria. He also talked about how lung ventilators were distributed among hospitals and what other apparatus can be used to treat patients with the coronavirus.
According to him, last week 17 new lung ventilators arrived in Bashkiria, including five children's ones. They were delivered to the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital, Ufa City Hospital No. 8, Chishminskaya Central District Hospital, Sterlitamak Clinical Hospital No. 1 and No. 2, Karmaskalinskaya Central District Hospital, Askarovskaya Central District Hospital.
Besides, two hospitals in Bashkiria have extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) devices, the so-called artificial lungs, which, according to some experts, more effectively deal with COVID-19 complications than mechanical lung ventilators.
Maxim Zabelin said that works were completed on installing the new ECMO device in the Kuvatov Regional Clinical Hospital that arrived recently. The second apparatus was installed in the City Clinical Hospital of the Demsky District of Ufa.
As previously reported, so far, there are no indications for using the ECMO apparatus in patients with the new coronavirus infection.
