USATU is involved in electric airplane development

Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU) is involved in the creation of an electric plane.

Scientists of the USATU Department of Electromechanics by order of FSUE "TsIAM named after P.I. Baranov " in conjunction with the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "SibNIA named after S.A. Chaplygin" and the company "SuperOks" CJSC participate in the implementation of large-scale state research work "Electric plane - Su-2020". This is a project to create a leading scientific and technical reserve in the field of promising Russian aircraft for inter-regional transportation with hybrid power plants.

In November 2019, the hybrid powerplant generator created by our engineers passed successful bench tests. In March 2020, the next big step was taken - the first "fitting" of the generator on board of the Yak-40 flying laboratory, on which basis an electric airplane demonstrator is created. To this end, one of the Yak-40 engines will be replaced by an energy node with the USATU generator, and an electric engine with a propeller will be installed in the nose part.
