Fourth stage of Sibai quarry flooding began in Bashkiria

The fourth stage of flooding began at the Sibay quarry. It was reported by RBC-Ufa with reference to the adviser to the director of the Sibay branch of the Uchalinsky Mining and Processing Plant Yaudar Bikkinov.

According to the representative of the enterprise, the quarry bowl is flooded by 160 meters; the total depth is of more than 500 meters.

The temperature of the quarry side is measured. At the beginning of the process, the temperature was 70 degrees, and today it is -5.9 degrees. Scientists are constantly monitoring the status of oxidation foci.

As Bikkinov says, the upper layers of the water in the quarry have neutral water.

The company hopes for the complete elimination of the consequences and the cessation of oxidative processes of ores on the sides, the news outlet reports. In this case, the mine development will be continued.

As the Bashinform News Agency reported, since the beginning of 2019, a high-alert mode has been operating in the city of Sibay due to oxidation of ore in an unexploited quarry for the extraction of copper ore from the local Uchalinsky Mining and Processing Plant (part of the UMMC holding). Since November 2018, there was substantial gas contamination. An interdepartmental headquarters was established to prevent the consequences of emergencies. Sibay residents complained of poor health. For a long time, a team of doctors worked in the city to provide medical care. On February 8, flooding of underground open-pit mines began. It was reported that by the summer, the environmental situation in the city had improved.
