Warmest winter since 1937 – Bashkir Met Office

In Bashkiria, such a warm winter as the past has not been observed since 1937, the Bashkir Met Office reports. The temperature was 7.2 degrees higher than usual, approximately the same as it happens in March.

The increased temperature scenario in this winter season was determined by the Atlantic air masses, in certain periods of time - by the subtropical air masses, experts specify.

In December, it was 4 degrees warmer than usual. January 2020 was the second warmest January for 83 years of meteorological observations. The average monthly air temperature exceeded the norm by more than 9 degrees. February was the third warmest month for the same observation period. The average monthly temperature was -5.3 degrees, which is 8.4 degrees higher than normal.

Three times during the winter, absolute air temperature maximums were exceeded at the Ufa-Dema weather station. January 17, the maximum air temperature was +2.2 degrees. On February 4, the temperature rose to +2.9 degrees, on February 28 - to +3.9 degrees.

Last winter was snowy. Almost 1.5 average precipitation fell - 147%. Even more snowy winters were observed in the republic in 2000-2001.

According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, March in the republic is expected to be 1.5-2 degrees warmer. The amount of precipitation is assumed to be close to long-term average values.
