Ufa hit TOP-5 megacities with high urban IQ index

Ufa hit the top five Russian megacities that received the highest urban digitalization index "IQ cities" by the end of 2018. The rating on assessing the progress and effectiveness of the digital transformation of the urban economy was developed by the Ministry of Construction of Russia together with Lomonosov Moscow State University in the framework of the departmental project "Smart City," which is part of the national projects "Housing and Urban Environment" and "Digital Economy".

The IQ index of cities contains 47 indicators and is calculated in 10 areas: urban management, smart housing, and communal services, innovations for the urban environment, smart urban transport, smart public, and environmental safety systems, tourism and service, smart social services systems, economic status and investment climate, communications network infrastructure.

According to the monitoring results, the highest level of urban IQ by the end of 2018 was in Moscow. Kazan and St. Petersburg were in second and third places, and Nizhny Novgorod was in fourth. Ufa scored 42.05 points and became the fifth in the rating.

The rating will be compiled annually. The municipal intelligence index will affect the size of state support for urban environment development. The better the IQ growth, the more federal co-financing the city will be able to receive.

According to the Ministry of Construction, the key and most important indicator of effectiveness is not the index itself, but the range of the changes from year to year.
