Idrisovskaya Cave will be cleaned of graffiti after Shulgan-Tash in Bashkiria

In Bashkiria, the Idrisovskaya Cave, which is located in the Salavatsky district of the republic, will be cleaned of graffiti after the Shulgan-Tash Cave. The Research and Production Center for the Protection and Use of Immovable Objects of Cultural Heritage of Bashkortostan reported it.

The other day, the department specialists, together with employees of the Shulgan-Tash Cave Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, traveled for a preliminary examination of the monument. Clearing works will be carried out as part of a project initiated by the management of Yangan-Tau Geopark.

Up to 1,000 people visit the cave with excursions in the summer season. Tourists take out stones, leave trash, make numerous inscriptions inside the cave. The tenant did not clean the territory of the monument and the cave itself from debris.

“Experts compiled a consolidated list of graffiti, which included about 320 inscriptions. Most of them were applied with various paints and varnishes over the past 20 years. Some graffiti is located on rock sections where ancient rock paintings were previously clearly visible,” the press service of the Research and Production Center informs.

The Idrisovskaya Cave is a monument of archeology of national significance. In the 1930s, local historian Mikhail Kasyanov discovered six anthropomorphic images made by red ocher in its entrance part. Currently, researchers have recorded 14 groups of rock paintings in the vicinity of the cave, presumably related to the Eneolithic period.
