Stray animals will not be euthanized since 2020

Stray animals will not be euthanized since January 1, 2020.

“From January 1, the federal law No. 498 comes into force. According to its provisions, it is allowed to carry out euthanasia only to terminally ill animals, and aggressive animals will be isolated in shelters,” said Azat Ziganshin, chief veterinary inspector of Bashkiria.

Until recently, there were no restrictions on euthanasia of stray animals. It is planned to build shelters with private capital.

The problem of stray animals, according to Azat Ziganshin, can be solved by introducing universal identification of domestic animals so that every cat and dog has a chip.

“This will discipline their owners,” the head of the Republican Veterinary Directorate believes.
