State Duma deputy requests to conduct environmental audit at petrochemical plant in Bashkiria

UFA, 12 December 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
The State Duma deputy Alexander Yushchenko demands to carry out an environmental inspection at TAU NefteKhim, which manages the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant.
The deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and Information Technology made a deputy request to the environmental prosecutor's office of Bashkiria and Rosprirodnadzor to check the company's environmental policy.
Alexander Yushchenko believes that the company does not pay due attention to ensuring the environmental safety of production and compliance with the necessary environmental standards.
“According to the data that I have, the enterprise discharges much industrial waste into the Belaya River. Repeatedly complaints from local residents are received, they are worried. The deputy of the State Assembly of the republic also contacted me. First of all, I expect the response of the federal authorities that are responsible for the environment on this issue. Secondly, I hope this will serve as an impetus for the company, because any structures working with hazardous production should invest in environmental safety to prevent possible negative impact, for example, what we observed in Sibay. Together, we can ensure that the oligarchic structures, whether petrochemical or otherwise, think about the need to protect nature and the land where we live”, the deputy told the agency.
