Pedestrian wooden bridge will be repaired in Beloretsk

UFA, 6 December 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
At a meeting held in Beloretsk, a comprehensive solution was developed to restore a pedestrian wooden bridge there. Structural elements will be mothballed. Specialists will begin construction and installation works after design and engineering surveys. All possible options for the restoration of the crossing are being worked out.
The 550-meter wooden bridge was built in 1936 by the Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant. For a long time, the bridge served as a crossing for the workers of the plant, later it became a walking place. For more than 80 years, the structure has deteriorated by 60%.
The Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov instructed to sort out the situation and organize the reconstruction of the bridge.
“We should listen to the opinions of local people. The fact that residents want the bridge restored is obvious. The bridge is not included in the register of cultural and historical monuments of the Russian Federation, but for residents, it is a real story, and this story should have a continuation. We are getting down to work,” said Boris Belyaev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Housing and Public Utilities of Bashkortostan, after inspecting the pedestrian bridge.
On November 20, activists advocating for the preservation of the facility met with representatives of the Institute for the Development of Cities in Bashkortostan. Following the meeting, two scenarios were considered - both full and partial restoration of the bridge.
Earlier, Olga Sarapulova, the adviser to the Head of Bashkortostan on the development of public spaces, said that according to the calculations made, the cost of restoring the bridge would make 30-50 million rubles. The maintenance of the bridge would require about 120 thousand per year.
