Record number of organ transplant operations was performed in Bashkiria

In Bashkiria, for the first time in the history of transplantation, more than 50 organ transplant surgeries have been performed this year, according to the republican Ministry of Health.

For the first time, a kidney transplant operation was performed at the Kuvatov’s Republican Clinical Hospital in 1996. Total, 468 kidney transplants were performed in Bashkiria during this time.

“2019 was also a record year for heart transplants,” the Ministry of Health of the region noted. “So, seven operations have been done this year, instead of three or four.”

Currently, kidney and liver transplantation is carried out at the Kuvatov’s Republican Clinical Hospital and the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital. Heart transplantation operations are carried out at the Republican Cardiology Center.

“To date, 155 patients are in the kidney transplant waiting list. In total, more than 1.2 thousand people are on renal replacement therapy in Bashkiria. There are currently 66 patients in the liver transplant waiting list and 22 in the heart list. Besides, a pancreas transplant waiting list has already been generated. 21 people are now waiting for this operation”, the ministry informs.
