During a working visit to the Bashkir capital, the Minister of Health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova visited the radiological department of the Republican Oncology Center and observed work of linear accelerators located there.
Total, three modern linear accelerators were put into operation at the Republican Oncology Center. One of them is the expanded Elekta Infinity, with photon emission energies of 6 MeV and 10 MeV, with an irradiation mode with a high dose of up to 14 Gy per minute, which allows implementing all the most modern irradiation techniques, including stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy.
Thus, the Oncology Center operates devices that provide the highest speed and accuracy of radiation therapy, high throughput, and significantly improve the quality of care for people with cancer.
According to the head of the radiological department of the Oncology Center Fagim Moufazalov, five thousand people receive radiological treatment a year.
“By the spring of next year, we plan to introduce stereotactic radiation as an alternative to surgical treatment, and the patient will be able to choose. The procedure lasts up to 15 minutes. The device is universal, any tumor localization on the human body can be treated. The exposure field is from 2 to 40 cm, and you can influence several targets”, he said.
He also said that soon in Bashkiria for the first time in the country 7D radiation therapy would be available.
