Bashkiria’s “Yangan-Tau” is included in UNESCO Geoparks Global Network

The "Yangan-Tau" Geopark located in the Salavatsky district of Bashkiria, is the first in Russia to be included in the UNESCO Geoparks Global Network. The decision was made at a meeting of the Council, which took place on the island of Gili Trawangan in Indonesia.

Acting Head of the republic Radiy Khabirov congratulated everyone who participated in the creation of the geopark and its promotion at the international level on this significant event. The head of the region emphasized that work was ongoing to create another geopark in the territory of the republic - Toratau.

The presentation of the Yangan-Tau Geopark will also take place at the sixth symposium of the Asia-Pacific Network of Geoparks, which will be held in Indonesia from September 3 to 6.

Note that at present, the UNESCO Geoparks Network includes more than 147 objects from 41 countries of the world. Having received this status, Bashkiria has an opportunity to glorify its land and geopark at a world level, to attract tourists from foreign countries.

Geopark Yangan-Tau spreads over an area of ​​1774 square kilometers. The natural heritage is represented by a wide variety of plant and animal species listed in the IUCN Red List, the Red Book of Russia and the Red Book of the Republic. The key ornithological territory of Russia, BS - 022 (the Ufa Plateau), which has national and international significance, also covers its territory. Nine natural and geological objects are protected and included in the regional network of specially protected natural territories.
