USATU starts its new round of aircraft construction

UFA, 29 August 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU), FSUE P.I. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motors (TsIAM) and "Krystal" Design Bureau have signed a tripartite agreement on cooperation in the development of aircraft hybrid and electric power units, their control systems.
The signing of the document took place as part of the business program of the MAKS-2019 Aviation and Space Salon, which takes place these days in Zhukovsky near Moscow.
“This cooperation is a new round in the development of hybrid and electric power, which is promising for the aircraft industry,” said TsIAM General Director Mikhail Gordin.
General Director of "Krystal" Design Bureau, Sergey Rodionov, noted that electric motors and hybrid power units were areas of global studies at the moment.
In addition to fundamental and applied research work in the field of hybrid and electric engines, the plans for cooperation between the USATU, the Krystal Design Bureau and TsIAM are the creation of an electric aircraft engine with a capacity of 520 kW. The engine itself, which is planned to be tested at TsIAM stands, is being developed by USATU, and Krystal Design Bureau will be responsible for its production and commissioning.
At MAKS-2019, Ufa Aviation University exhibited five products at once developed by scientists from the Department of Electromechanics.
Two of them were designed as ordered by TsIAM: a generator for a hybrid power plant of the “Electrolet” project and a fail-safe electric motor for a demonstration stand of a promising aircraft engine. Three other samples were made by order of JSC Krystal Design Bureau. This is the VEP-40 electric motor, which has already passed all types of tests and is recommended for implementation on civilian aircraft, four VEP-20 electric motors, which are presented at the MAKS as part of the Krystal unmanned aerial vehicle, as well as the GMETCH-150 kW magnetoelectric generator for promising aircraft.
Together with the “Engines for Aviation” company in the Skolkovo area, USATU for the first time presented a piston engine for small aircraft at the air show.
