International Architectural Festival "Eco-Bereg" opened in Ufa

Architects from different countries and cities of the country arrived in Ufa. The program of the festival involves the holding of a scientific conference "Issues of renovating the urban development" and world-renowned architects' workshops, including Petr Arsich, Totan Kuzembaev, Ufa-born Eric Valeev, Nikita Asadov, Alexey Kukovyakin, and others. Guided tours of the new construction sites of Ufa will be conducted for guests.

The main event of the festival is a contest for the development of the architectural and urban planning concept of eco-regeneration of the Sutoloka River delta. 24 projects were submitted for the contest. According to the president of the Union of Architects of Russia Nikolai Shumakov, this is quite a lot; usually there are less than 20 projects at this festival.

The contestants had to solve rather difficult tasks - try to fit ideas for the renovation of this abandoned so far area of Ufa into the space between the river, the transport artery and the already constructed multi-story buildings. An independent jury led by an architect from the Czech Republic will choose the best projects that will receive first, second, and two third prizes in the amount of 500, 300, 100 thousand, respectively. The results of the contest will be announced on August 24.

As stated in the terms of the contest, the design area is the landmark of the city; it offers a view at the entrance to the city through the Belsky automobile bridge. It is assumed that the riverbank should be included in the recreational walking zone Park Vatan - Embankment of the Belaya River - Monument of Friendship of Peoples. A pedestrian path should go along this route, taking into account the previously designed road junction in Naberezhnaya and Pugachev streets.

According to Ufa Mayor Ulfat Mustafin, the city began to accomplish the southern slope. Perhaps at the festival, it will be possible to find interesting ideas for the development of the long coastal zone of Ufa.

The Eco-Bereg festival was established by the Union of Moscow Architects in 2010. Over the past years, architects from more than 50 countries took part in the festival, which contributed to the strengthening of international relations of Russian architects with foreign colleagues, reaching agreements, and developing multilateral cooperation programs.
