One of largest stone mounds of Urals was found in Abzelilovsky district of Bashkiria

The archaeological expedition Yakty-Kul-Kusimovo is working in the Abzelilovsky district of Bashkortostan. According to scientists, one of the largest stone mounds not only of the republic but also of the Urals was found here. The diameter of the mound is approximately 14 meters. It probably dates back to 5-4 century BC (Scythian time).

More than 40 people are simultaneously working at the excavations. The work is carried out by the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences supervised by the candidates of historical sciences Nikita Savelyev and Vyacheslav Kotov. The scientists are assisted by a volunteer group "Tamga" and a school archaeological expedition from the city of Polevskoy, Sverdlovsk Region, under the leadership of Alexander Nepomnyashchy.

“The stone mausoleum itself was about eight meters. This is a collapsed domed mausoleum like the Turakhan mausoleum,” Nikita Saveliev told Bashinform News Agency.

Among the finds, there is a fragment of ceramics that clearly defines the time - Scythian-Sarmatian, the era of the early nomads. Stone knives, choppers, sharp-pointed weapons, scrapers were also found in large quantities.

As the director of the Yakty-Kul sanatorium, Salavat Nafikov, said: “This is our great historical heritage, the history of our region. We must treat it very carefully and transmit all the material for further study. From the point of view of tourism, these objects will always be of interest, from the Stone Age to the ethnography of the 19th century. I hope that over time, with the support of the republic and private investors, an educational and entertainment park will appear here”, marked Salavat Nafikov.
