Bashkir parliamentarians intend to protect Bashkir bees from pesticides by law

The main reason for the fact that bees are dying massively throughout the country, including in Bashkortostan, is in cheap pesticides and agrochemicals imported mainly from China, the chairman of the State Assembly - Kurultay of the Republic of Bashkortostan Konstantin Tolkachev believes. He proposed to protect the Bashkir bees through legal instruments.

“The main problem is cheap pesticides and agrochemicals, mainly imported from China. We should control their turnover. Otherwise, extreme adverse effects are possible. It is not unlikely that there is only one step from the problem of the health of the bees to the problem of human health,” the Speaker posted on his Facebook page.

According to Konstantin Tolkachev, Bashkortostan as the leading honey region of Russia should take some measures.

“It’s unacceptable for the republic to lose its main brand,” said the Speaker of the republican parliament.

As the Bashinform News Agency reported earlier, experts of the All-Russian People’s Front also call on federal authorities to establish control over the circulation of pesticides and agrochemicals, and a special interdepartmental group has been created by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic to study the causes of bee death. At the same time, the department assured that the mass death of bees would not entail a deficit of honey, even though this year the production of honey may be reduced by about 1.5 percent.
