New driving culture should be created in Bashkiria - Radiy Khabirov

The republic should promote a culture of safe driving, suggested the Acting Head of Bashkiria, Radiy Khabirov, at a briefing session in the government, after hearing a report delivered by the head of the State Transport Agency Timur Mukhametyanov following up commissions work for the investigation of accident sites.

The head of the department reported that road signs, signal posts, additional marking, additional direction signs to settlements, raised rib markings were installed at hazardous sections of roads.

Downwarding of roadsides was eliminated for 10 km length, 17 unauthorized exits were liquidated. CCTV cameras were installed to control the speed. By the end of the year, 527 cameras will be installed in the region, by May 1, 2020 - 986 cameras.

“Drivers must understand: we are not going to chase them with fines, we give them life,” said Radiy Khabirov. “The State Transport Agency and traffic police should work on the introduction of a new driving culture, which is based on the observance of traffic rules and speed limits. They should undertake it as a mission.”

According to the traffic police for the Republic of Bashkortostan, for the first half of the year, 1,704 traffic accidents (-71) were recorded in the republic, in which 178 people were killed (-2), 2171 (-78) were injured.
