Pilot-cosmonauts laid flowers to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya's obelisk in Ufa

UFA, 3 July 2019. /Bashinform News Agency, Evgeniya Syutkina/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
In Ufa, test pilot Yuri Vashchuk and test cosmonaut Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, who arrived from Moscow at the opening of the second session at the Ural Sultanov International Aerospace School, took part in laying flowers to the memorial in the Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya Square in Traktovaya Street in Ufa. The square was accomplished by representatives of the Bashkir branch of the Russian Geographical Society. A year ago, a memorial complex was opened in the square in memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. In the spring of this year, under the direction of the Chairman of the Bashkir branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Vyacheslav Abroshchenko, pines and fir trees were planted in the public garden.
In honor of the first woman who was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) during the Great Patriotic War, streets, parks, and squares were named in the settlements of our country. Her image is depicted in fiction, journalism, cinema, painting, monumental art, museum exhibitions. There is even an asteroid No. 793, named Zoya.
“It is significant that this event takes place under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society, which faces the essential task of preserving the history of our country. The future of Bashkiria and the country as a whole are in the hands of the younger generation, including those guys who are standing here today,” said test cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov.
