"Yangan-Tau" will be known in America

The “Yangan-Tau” Spa Resort and Geopark will be known in South America and Southeast Asia, in Europe and Canada due to the entry into the UNESCO Geopark list.

The "Yangan-Tau" Geopark located in Bashkiria can receive a status of the first UNESCO Geopark in the territory of the post-Soviet space. Alfred Akbashev, director of the Bashkir “Yangan-Tau” spa resort told about it an interview with “Kommersant”. “The idea of ​​the Yangan-Tau Geopark originated at the sanatorium. The place where the health resort is located is unique. Not only because of Mount Yangantau, in the depths of which thermal activity is still going on (healing geothermal steam) contrary to the laws of geology. But also due to the fact that a large part of the Salavatsky district, when studied in detail, turned out to be rich in geological, biological and archaeological monuments. By arranging the territory as a geopark, we can save and preserve all these natural monuments, while avoiding strict prohibitions on visiting them”, says Akbashev.

Employees of the “Yangan-Tau” spa resort, specialists of the Scientific and Research Institute of Life Safety and the Administration of the Salavatsky district have united for the development of the project. In 2017, a dossier for joining the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network was submitted to the Bureau of the UNESCO International Geoparks and Geoscience Program in Paris. According to Akbashev, the concept of the global geopark implies sustainable development of the territory, ensuring the preservation of natural resources and the participation of local people. “Entry into the UNESCO Global Geopark Network guarantees an increase in the popularity of a sanatorium abroad. We expect a steady influx of foreign tourists, ”says the director of the sanatorium. The publication states that the UNESCO decision on the Yangan-Tau Geopark will be announced in the spring of 2020.
