Cinemas will be checked for barrier-free environment for disabled in Bashkiria

UFA, 19 June 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
In Bashkiria, activists of the “United Country - Accessible Environment” party project by United Russia began monitoring cinemas for accessibility for people with disabilities.
A visit to one of the popular Ufa cinemas showed that not all conditions for people with disabilities were met in the institution. There was an elevator for the convenience of the disabled however, there were no signs of its availability. The chairman of the regional public council of the party project, the deputy of the republican parliament Irek Zaripov, had to learn first how to get inside the cinema. There were difficulties with ramps. By standards, one of the cash desks should be equipped for wheelchairs. There was no such facility for buying tickets there either. The hall (there are nine of them in the cinema) had no equipment allowing people with sensory impairments to receive information in alternative formats. The commission made recommendations to the cinema management to eliminate the faults.
“Our checks are not punitive. We want to convey information to the leadership of these leisure centers so that in the future, they will provide conditions for people with disabilities. This is only our first visit. Tomorrow we are planning to inspect the rest of the cinemas in the capital,” said Nail Karimov, coordinator of the project “United Country - Accessible Environment” in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
There are more than ten venues in the list of activists. By the end of June, the commission plans to check the accessibility of Sterlitamak, Ishimbay, Salavat, Blagoveshchensk, Birsk, Meleuz and Kumertau cinemas.
