54-year-old woman had heart transplant in Bashkiria

A 54-year-old Rashida from the city of Sterlitamak became the owner of a new heart. The organ transplant operation was performed at the Ufa Cardiology Center by the medical team of heart surgeons and transplantologists.

For many years, the woman suffered from a cardiac anomaly: shortness of breath, edema were felt daily. Besides she was affected by chronic illness, stress, and relocation from Uzbekistan.

Previously, surgeons of the cardiac center performed a valve replacement operation on the patient, but the condition worsened in 2019. Transplantation was her only chance of survival.

The heart transplant operation took about five hours. Rashida admits that she will now celebrate her birthday twice a year - in spring and summer.

Now the patient is undergoing rehabilitation and will soon be able to return to normal activity if she fulfills the doctors' instructions.

3-4 heart transplants per year are performed at the Republican Cardiology Center under the direction of Doctor of Medical Sciences Vladimir Surkov since 2013.
