500 tons of garbage were collected in Bashkiria during “Clean Shores of Eurasia” International Campaign

UFA, 6 June 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
On the eve of the World Environment Day, the Russian stage of the Clean Shores of Eurasia project was held in Bashkortostan. It is aimed at improving the state of water reservoirs in the region and is carried out in support of the initiative of the International Association of the Lake Regions.
As part of the campaign, the banks of 269 rivers and reservoirs were cleaned from waste. More than 12 thousand volunteers, representatives of public organizations, enterprises, authorities, and educational institutions took part in the events. Divers, who took an active part in the purification of water bodies, also joined the campaign.
The joint efforts of the participants collected about 500 tons of garbage. The length of cleaning the coastal zones of water bodies of the republic was more than 200 km. Volunteers showed particular activity on the shores of Aslykul and Kandrykul lakes. Every day thousands of people rest here, a significant amount of waste is generated, which, unfortunately, tourists do not always clean up after themselves.
The International Association of the Lake Regions was established in 2016 to support sustainable and innovative development of the lake regions of the Eurasian continent. Its participants and partners are the CIS countries, Mongolia, Germany, Italy, Norway, Finland and Switzerland, public organizations, research institutes, and universities, as well as business circles.
