Radiy Khabirov: Main combustion sources in Sibay quarry are covered with water

Uchalinsky Mining and Processing Plant (UGOK) reached the 469 meters mark and reports that the main sources of combustion were covered with water. It was announced by the Acting Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov on his Facebook page.
"UGOK engineers believe that residual effects, or more simply steam, will be observed for another 24 days," wrote the head of the region.
The concentration of harmful substances in the last days in the air is already decreasing, and if everything goes smoothly, the number of cases of exceeding the maximal permissible concentration in the coming weeks should drop to zero.
Now UGOK has already begun design works on the water pumping out to continue its normal production activities.
“However, it can be done only when we, together with the residents, understand that the problem has been finally solved, that the steam has stopped, there are no burning areas below or above the filling levels. In any case, we control the situation completely, and the air in Sibay will be clean, ”said Radiy Khabirov.
He also thanked the residents of Sibay for their patience.
Since December 2018, a high alert mode has been operating in Sibay due to smog and the smell of sulfur emitted by smoldering ore in a closed pit. The Sibay branch of Uchalinsky Mining and Processing Plant is conducting the flooding of the quarry.
