Sibay quarry mines will be stopped if necessary - Radiy Khabirov

The mines of Sibay’s quarry will be closed and flooded, if necessary. It was announced by the Acting Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov at a meeting with the residents of Sibay on February 27.

The general director of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), Andrei Kozitsin, reported on the situation at the Sibay open-pit mine and the ongoing liquidation work. One of the residents of Sibay demanded to close the quarry and stop all works, relocate the city to a “clean place”.

Currently, according to Andrei Kozitsin, half of the mine is closed, and the question arises about the employment of miners - 800 people. He promised in the event of the mine closure to solve the issue of miners and mining foremen employment.

“If according to scientific data, expertise by design institutes, republican structures for emergencies, Rospotrebnadzor, I will be clearly told that to eliminate the consequences, it will be necessary to stop the mine - the mine will be stopped. I promise it regardless of any economic considerations. At the moment, works are underway, deadlines have been set, we all together hope that these actions will be effective, ”said Radiy Khabirov.
