Radiy Khabirov proposed to make specific routes for people who use wheelchairs

UFA, 21 February 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
In Bashkiria, a culture of an accessible environment has not developed yet; it should be promoted by landscaping organizations. Radiy Khabirov, the Acting Head of the republic, spoke about it at the Youth Civil Forum “Bashkortostan - Territory of Opportunities”, in response to a question from the blogger and Paralympic player Rustam Nabiyev. “300 thousand disabled people live in the republic, 7 thousand of them use wheelchairs. It is a large number of people, but you will not see any of them in the streets. We understand that after leaving home, we will not get to a destination point”, Rustam Nabiyev said.
“Indeed, the accessible environment is at quite a low level here. Having worked in Moscow and the Moscow region, I can say that there it is like ABC among the heads of the landscaping institutions. They do not need to be explained how curbs and ramps should be laid so that a person in a wheelchair can pass through them. I think we will start with specific routes. Let us take, for example, a point at the intersection of Lenin and Revolutionnaya Streets, and imagine how a person can go, for example, to the Central Market or some kind of cultural institution. We will test such a method in Ufa and apply it across the republic”, suggested the head of the region.
