Mine workers in Sibay were given personal protective equipment

This was announced at an extraordinary meeting of the city commission on emergency situations in the Sibay administration.

“The mines function normally. During each shift indicators of maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances are measured. Everyone who works on the surface was given personal protective equipment”, said a representative of the Sibay branch of Uchalinsky Mining and Processing Enterprise (UGOK).

In Sibay, 27 temporary accommodation points have been prepared, which are ready to accommodate residents if necessary, food supply issues have also been resolved. The local hospital does not record growth of complaints related to respiratory diseases. But it was recommended to the local residents to contact their local GP, in case of any ailments.

There are 494 beds in the hospital, if necessary, five beds can be additionally deployed in the intensive care unit.

These days in Sibay the effects of ore oxidation in an unused quarry on the outskirts of the city are being eliminated. From the bottom of the quarry, a cloud with sulfur oxide rises, the locals complain about an unpleasant smell and smog over the city. By the morning of December 12, the wind began to blow in Sibay, the smog dissipated, but the residents are still concerned about the ecological situation.

As representatives of the Sibay branch of UGOK reported at the meeting, mudflows from a mixture of clay, water, and rock are drained to the glow nest. 1300 cubic meters of rock-clay mixture and 1300 cubic meters of water were used to envelop the oxidized rock. There is no transport and walking access to the place where the gases come out to the surface, the mine has not been developed for more than ten years. It is expected that within ten days the emission of gases will be minimized. The recovery of the depleted mine will be continued.
