HIV spreads faster in cities of Bashkiria than in rural areas

UFA, 28 November 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/. Rospotrebnadzor in Bashkiria presented statistics of HIV-infected people in the region. Since the registration of the first case (in 1987) and to the present time, 30,721 HIV-infected people have been identified by laboratories in the territory of the republic.

To date, more than 21 thousand people are registered, of which almost 13 thousand are men, about 8 thousand are women.

About 12 thousand HIV-infected people live in cities, 6.8 thousand people in rural areas, 1 653 people are in institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service Directorate (UFSIN) of Russia in the Republic of Bashkortostan, more than 800 are persons with no fixed abode.

The incidence rate in Bashkortostan is 54.2 per 100 thousand of the population. A decrease in incidence by 3.7% was recorded compared to the same period in 2017 (from 56.3 to 54.2 per 100 thousand population).

The statistics data was summed up to the World AIDS Day, which is marked on December 1. In connection with this date, the agency organizes a hotline on HIV prevention issues. You can make calls from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. by phone: 8-800-700-90-30.

Laboratory diagnostics of HIV infection in the republic is carried out in 18 laboratories, including three departmental ones: GUFSIN of Russia for the Republic of Bashkortostan, State Unitary Enterprise “Immunopreparat” and All-Russian Center for Plastic Surgery of the Eye. Five laboratories are located in Ufa: at the Republican Clinical Oncology Center, the Republican VD Clinic, the Republican Blood Transfusion Station, the Republican Clinical Hospital and the Republican AIDS and Infectious Diseases Center.
